bridge in the snow

The heart of Haydon Bridge is the river which flows

through the centre of the village and has salmon and
trout for which the Northumberland rivers are well
known.

The village has one pub, a working men's club, one small
hotel/restaurant and an excellent restaurant/ pub which always has real ale on
tap. A superb fish and chip shop and an Indian take-away are just across the road. Within 2-3 minutes walk, on the other side of the bridge [pedestrian], is a well-stocked Co-op, an excellent butcher, chemist, 3 churches and a newsagent. The village also has a library and a hairdresser.

Haydon Bridge is served by the Newcastle - Carlisle bus service as well as the train plying between these two great, but different cities. The trains stop at the famed MetroCentre as well as Corbridge station, home of a first class Indian restaurant.
Served by bus and train, east-west by the A69 and north-south by the A68, Haydon Bridge could not be easier to find or get to.

Just a mile away is the magnificent Langley Castle which offers everything from a cup of coffee to a complete banquet.

Seven miles to the east is the attractive market town of Hexham, which boasts antique shops, craft shops, book shops, tea shops, restaurants and stylish clothes shops as well as Robbs Department Store and Marks and Spencer.
Hexham is also lucky to have the wonderful Queen's Hall which incorporates a tea room/restaurant, a library, art gallery and theatre.
Corbridge is 4 miles further on, home of the Corbridge Larder and more local shops.

Haydon Bridge is a perfect base for exploring the myriad of attractions this unspoilt area of Northumbria has to offer. Hadrian's Wall is just 4 miles to the North and Alston, the highest market town in England is about 40 minutes drive to the South through spectacular scenery. Within 1-2 hours drive are the Yorkshire Moors,
York, the Lake District, Kielder Water, Scottish
Borders and the amazing Northumberland Coast.

Whatever your perfect holiday consists of, Northumberland has a taste of it. Beautiful countryside, incredible beaches, rivers, lakes, tiny villages, large cities, cosy pubs, impressive restaurants. You want to walk, cycle, trek, hike, play golf, fish, shop, eat, go to the theatre, museums or art galleries - it's all here and more!

Oh yes! And sometimes the weather's not bad either.
